O Holy Night Indeed: The Gift of Peace

Jesus was born in a manger in what could be described as a chaotic time. He came to earth as the Prince of Peace not the Prince of Unhealthy Chaos. Bethlehem was bustling the night Jesus was born. His birth in this most unconventional place was by design.

Peace came to the world in a humble little barn. The world stood still as creation knew something amazing was happening on this most holy of nights.

The Peace of God that Jesus brought as an everlasting gift with His very Presence was demonstrated throughout His life. Peace filled the atmosphere every place that Jesus entered. Even in the most treacherous of storms, His peace allowed Him to sleep and when He spoke to the storms they ceased.

But let's talk for a moment about something very unique Luke said about the night Jesus was born. Luke 2:13 says, ‘Suddenly a great company of Heavenly Host appeared with the angel praising God . . . The word “host” in ancient English means “army.” An army of Rambo angels appeared, suddenly! It was a light show like no other in the sky. Jesus was born into war. His very existence immediately created division on all fronts. He was a baby of war.

War was common in biblical times. The Old Testament could be a script for a Steven Spielberg war epic. The moment there was a separation between light and darkness war entered the atmosphere.

The Heavenly “Host” accompanied Jesus as a visual sign that peace would be present in our world amidst war. Jesus came to fight! He came to fight on our behalf. He came to fight so that we could live free. He came to show by example that you can have perfect peace in the midst of the battle for our spirits, minds, and bodies. We may be in a battle, but the war was won in a manger two thousand years ago. Jesus defeated the enemy on your behalf and in return He is asking for you to stay in perfect peace.

Where is your peace today?

Warmly,

Ingrid

The Lord your God is with you. The mighty warrior who saves. Zephaniah 3:17

Dear Precious Prince of Peace,

Thank you for coming to this world to fight on my behalf. You were born into war knowing you would endure the most painful death imaginable. You did this on my behalf as a gift without strings. I don't have to earn your love. I don't have to work hard to make you accept me. What a priceless gift!

Lord, allow me to understand how much you rejoice over me. You're not waiting until I am perfect. You're not sitting on the edge of Your seat waiting for me to become a better version of myself. You accept me and love me in my current condition. I pray for an open-eyed awareness, Lord, of Your Peace. I pray that no matter how difficult the days on the horizon may be, Your peace trumps all.

Help me fight well, Jesus. Help me fight from a place of peace and not fear. And more than anything, help me remember that You are a Mighty Warrior who is in total control.

In the name of the Great Prince of Peace, Jesus, my Humble Savior I pray, Amen.

Below are scriptures to meditate on while you usher in the gift of Peace!

Perfect, absolute peace surrounds those whose imaginations are consumed with you; they confidently trust in you. Isaiah 26:3

I leave the gift of peace with you—My Peace. Not the kind of fragile peace given by the world, but my perfect peace. Don’t yield to fear or be troubled in your hearts—instead, be courageous. John 14:27

And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world! John 16:33
