O Holy Night Indeed: The Gift of Hope

Learned helplessness leads to hopelessness. Where there is no hope you have no energy to sustain a truly fulfilling life. A life without hope becomes a scarlet letter upon your chest and robs you of your true identity.

Every self-help opportunity in the world will not usher in true everlasting hope into our lives. This only comes from one place . . . our Lord Jesus Christ. He is our Risen Hope. Without an authentic bonded relationship with Him and an earnest desire to keep Him as the center point of our life it is virtually impossible to live a life full of hope.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick. Without Jesus not only is our heart sick but so is our spirit, mind, and emotions. Not living from a place of hope with the Giver of Hope will only land you in a place of helplessness and depression.

Do you battle with moving in and out of "funk" or depression? Look deep inside you and see what areas in your life are causing you to get your eyes off your living hope. Maybe you have no idea what I am talking about and having an authentic relationship with Jesus is just not on your radar.

Unshakable hope. How do those works strike you? Is the thought of having unshakable hope far from anything you are able to achieve? Have you forgotten that His plans for you are good? Do you truly believe God finishes what He starts? Do you believe God is incapable of telling a lie and what He says about you is absolutely the truth? Do you believe He has the master plan? Do you believe, really believe, everything happens for a reason, and while we may not understand or may never understand, that’s okay because we are resolute that He is only capable of Good?

These are tough questions, especially when you are in the center of a very rough season.

I challenge you to dig deep and have an honest discussion with God. Get mad if you need to. God has big shoulders and He can take it. Get honest, brutally honest! Allow all the emotions that are making your heart sick to rise to the surface. Speak them to God. Give God permission to bring hope to those areas.

Lovelies, this is where the rubber meets the road. This is the real stuff. The life-changing stuff. But, you have to be authentic and willing to submit yourself fully to God. Ninety percent of you will not cut it. He needs 100% cooperation.

If you are willing to bare your heart before the King and give Him everything He will show up. I guarantee it! He will reveal things to you that may be painful but will lead you on the path to finding Hope. True, Priceless Hope.

If you want to begin your hope journey, pray the prayer in the section below to invite the Father into your journey.

Dear Daddy,

I am a three-year old little girl crawling into your lap. This is a very unfamiliar place to me. I feel trepidation. I feel vulnerable. I honestly am not sure I want to do this, but I know I need to get my hope back. You are my only Hope.

As I sit here I want to expose every part of me, the pretty, the unsightly, and the downright horrible. I want you to open the secret room in my heart. The place I never go because it is just too painful or scary. Here is the key. I'm scared but you already know that.

While I sit on your lap I remember a place and time when I felt so much peace, love, joy, and hope. I see that place in my mind. Will you please come with me to that place so I can sit on your lap? This place gives me comfort and helps me prepare myself for the moment you open the door to the secret place in my heart that is stealing my hope.

I have been waiting a long time to find hope -- true, redemptive hope.

I pause in this moment and allow myself to be present and aware.

I say to you Lord, "I trust you. I trust you like I trust no other. I trust you with all of my deep secrets."

{Now feel that bond of trust between you and the Father. Tell the Lord in this moment He has been granted full access to all of you. Now sit with Him in this place you feel so secure and ask Him to reveal those things in your life that have been robbing you of hope. Pause and sit with the Father for a moment.}

Father, thank you for your revelation. Thank you for loving me unconditionally and knowing the deep, darkest places in my heart. Thank you for bringing light to my darkness and helping me move to a place of hope and healing in you.

We are on this journey together and I know hope is a process. I dedicate myself to the process. Please stay with me every step of the way. I am weak, so be my Protector. I need you more than I need anything or anyone else. You and I together working in tandem will restore my hope.

Father, I thank you for loving me more than I could ever imagine. I want to rise up and be the woman you created me to be. I want to live an authentic life and I need Your Living Gift of Hope to make that happen.

I love you dearly.

I believe and declare all of these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Below are scriptures to meditate on while you usher in the gift of Hope!

Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning. You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety. You will lie down, with no one to make you afraid, and many will court your favor. Job 11:17-19

Now may God, the inspiration and fountain of hope, fill you to overflowing with uncontainable joy and perfect peace as you trust in him. And may the power of the Holy Spirit continually surround your life with his super-abundance until you radiate with hope! Romans 15:13

But hope means that we must trust and wait for what is still unseen. For why would we need to hope for something we already have? So because our hope is set on what is yet to be seen, we patiently keep on waiting for its fulfillment. Romans 8:24-25

The eyes of the Lord are upon even the weakest worshipers who love him—those who wait in hope and expectation for the strong, steady love of God. God will deliver them from death, even the certain death of famine, with no one to help. Psalm 33:18-19

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:6-7

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:11
